Fishing on Kissimmee With Capt Mike Rudder

Fishing Friends,

I really appreciated you fishing with me on Okeechobee over the past several years. The water level in Okeechobee is probably 4 to 6 feet lower than when we last fished there. This is the reason I have moved to Kissimmee Lake located just east of Lake Wales, Florida.

Neva and I have purchased a home at Camp Mack which is located on the river at the north end of Kissimmee Lake. We are located just south of Orlando and Disney World I am fishing Kissimmee Lake, Toho, Walk in Water, and some other smaller lakes in the area.

February, March and April are great months to fish here on Kissimmee !!!!!!!!!! The big ones are looking for a place to spawn and we will know where to find them.

If you are in the Orlando area or just want to come fish, please call me:

  KISSIMMEE LAKE
  February 15th 2008

The water temperature is in the 68 to 72 degree range and the Bass are getting ready to go on the beds. I am seeing several beds in the shallows and the big ones will be moving in on the full moon this month. Fishing has been spotty for the last month or so because of the cold fronts that have been passing but it is time for the weather to moderate and the fish are hitting better. There is lots of hydrilla on the lake and the fish are always close to these areas.
I have been catching lots of bucks and a few good fish around lily pads where they are working on beds. They have been hitting baby brush hogs, sinko's, and horny toads in the pads. If the wind is blowing I have been picking up some good fish on the outside edge of the Kissimmee grass where ever there is a cut or point. They are hitting rattle traps or flukes in the grass.
Tiger Cove and North Cove are the best locations for big fish. The best fish have been coming on shiners in both areas. Brahma Island and Otter Creek will be good areas to look for bedding fish in the next few months.
It took 20lb 1oz to win the BFL here last weekend but the next best bag was about 16lbs with lots of 10lb bags.
These 5 fish limits will really increase as the water warms and it gets closer to the full moon.
